Well, with Google going public this has been a topic dejour lately so I figured it would be a good starter here.

Can Google keep its spot as the Search Enging King?

With Microsoft and Yahoo putting endless dollars into going out on their own do you think it is a possibility that we will soon have a new search king or do you think it will just become more of a matter of preference?

IMO the field is going to get tighter but it will ultimately go to the company that has found the best human resources which I know Google has done a good job of the past few years. I think Google will stay on top because they realize what they have now isn't going to get it done moving forward. With that said my loyalty will go with relevant searches so let the competition begin!

What do you think?

Its really hard to say to be honest. It does become a personal opinion and I guess its who hits there results the best. I personally enjoy Yahoo to be honest but have not had the problem needed to associate my self with CS of a company.

Welcome to the forum pr0phet. Yahoo does have quite a bit of loyal users and they haven't had to concern themselves with search results that much in the past as they have been using Google results. It will be interesting to see how they can not only survive but thrive with their search results moving forward. ;)

I'm not real psyched about Google selling out with an IPO and sortof feel like it is going to be a downhill slide for them. Their current search results are becoming not a whole lot more than spam and I can feel the evil Microsoft creeping in. Although I will say MSN will have to give that engine a new look before they do anything else.

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing a new player come in with something fresh to take them all down.

I've always liked Google because of their simplicity. Lately, they have added a lot of features yet have remained simplistic. I hope they stay that way. Also, just to let you know, recently, Google has bought Blogger (http://www.blogger.com). They redesigned it, made it standards compliant, and it seems to be a whole lot better.

Welcome to the forum gbacon!

I'd like to add that I think Google's blog is pretty darn cool. The fact that Google's founders Larry and Sergey are going to be publishing on it is the kind of stuff that makes Google.....well.....Google.

Awesome. Thanks for the welcome. Today, I read about them in Time's 100th Year Magazine. (I think that was it.) Good stuff. :p

Well, let me drop some updates on this topic:
MSN (search.msn.com) is now proving to be Google's biggest concern. They are in a direct battle with the world's giants. Honestly, Im not sure who will come out on top. Especially with IE7 around the corner and with Win2005 scheduled early 2006 guess what will be the default homepage with this OS?
